ERCOT market
Most of Texas is served by the ERCOT grid. You choose a licensed retail electric provider (REP) for the electricity itself, while a Transmission and Distribution Service Provider (TDSP) owns the wires, reads the meter, and restores outages. Compare plans to start service at a new address, transfer when you move, or switch providers without changing how power reaches your home.

FAQ
ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) operates the electric grid for most of the state. In ERCOT areas, customers choose a retail electric provider while a TDSP delivers power.
Depending on your address it may be Oncor (DFW / north & west Texas), CenterPoint (Houston area), AEP Texas Central or North, TNMP, or Lubbock Power & Light (LP&L). Enter your ZIP or call us to confirm.
No. As of January 2024, Lubbock Power & Light completed its transition to the competitive market. LP&L operates as a distributor only — you choose a retail provider for the electricity plan.
Call your TDSP (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, or LP&L). They own the lines and restore outages. Your retail provider handles billing and the energy plan.
Not in most cases. Austin Energy and CPS Energy (San Antonio) are municipally owned utilities that serve their customers directly, so retail choice generally does not apply there. Most of the rest of the ERCOT market — including Houston, Dallas–Fort Worth, Corpus Christi and Lubbock — offers competitive retail choice.
