ERCOT market
For years Lubbock Power & Light sold electricity directly to its customers. As of January 2024, LP&L completed its move to the competitive market and now operates as a distributor only. That means you pick a retail electric provider for your plan, while LP&L still owns the local lines, reads the meter, and restores outages. If you were an LP&L customer before, you may have been moved to a provider automatically, so it is worth reviewing your current plan and comparing options. Some addresses in the Lubbock area are served by other utilities or co-ops rather than LP&L, so confirm your address by ZIP or call us.

Call LP&L. It owns the local distribution lines and restores outages. Your retail provider handles billing and your plan.
You can review your current plan and stay if it suits you, or compare and switch. Check your bill for the provider name, rate, and contract terms.
Not necessarily. Some nearby addresses are served by other utilities or co-ops. Confirm by ZIP or call us.
Choose a retail provider, give them your address and start date, and they arrange the connection with LP&L. Have your ID and lease or closing details handy.
A TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Service Provider) is the regulated utility that owns the poles, wires and meters, reads your meter and restores power after an outage. It does not sell you an electricity plan and its delivery charges are the same whichever retail provider you choose. Your TDSP depends on your service address — in some areas more than one utility serves the same city — so confirm it by ZIP code or call us for a free check.
A retail electric provider (REP) is the licensed company that sells you the electricity itself: it sets the rate per kWh, the contract term and the fees on your plan, and it bills you. In the ERCOT market you can shop and switch between REPs freely, while your TDSP keeps delivering the power, so switching never means new wires, a new meter or a service interruption.
