A comparison service, not a utility

CompareToChoose is a free energy comparison service. We work with licensed retail electricity and natural gas suppliers across deregulated markets — most of Texas on the ERCOT grid, plus New Jersey, Washington DC, Virginia, Delaware, and Michigan. We help you see what is available, compare plans side by side, and start, transfer, or switch service.

Our advisors are paid by suppliers, not by you. That keeps the service free and means we only earn when a plan fits — there is no cost and no obligation to use our help.

You choose the supplier. Your utility still delivers.

In a deregulated market, one company supplies your energy (the retail provider) and a separate utility delivers it (the TDSP). In Texas, that means you can shop retail electric providers while Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, or LP&L keeps owning the lines, reading the meter, and restoring outages. Switching never means new wires, a new meter, or a service interruption.

ImportantYour delivery utility is the same no matter which provider you choose. Comparing only changes the retail supplier and the supply rate on your bill.

Licensed advisors

Real people licensed to help you compare retail energy suppliers.

We do not deliver energy

Your utility keeps the wires, meters, and outage response. We never touch delivery.

Rates change

Plans and prices move with the market. We compare current offers, not stale ones.

Understanding how much power Texas homes use

Averages help you compare plans; your bill is what actually matters.

1,000–1,300 kWh/mo

A typical Texas home uses about 1,000–1,300 kWh per month depending on home size, insulation, and season.

Summer spikes

AC demand can double summer usage. Comparing by your real summer usage avoids teaser-rate surprises.

Supply vs delivery

Your bill is supply (retail provider, competitive) plus delivery (TDSP, regulated and fixed regardless of provider).

All-in pricing

We compare the full rate structure — per-kWh, base charges, and fees — not just the headline rate.
