Understand your bill before you shop

A Texas electricity bill has two main pieces: the supply charge from your retail electric provider (the rate per kWh and any fees) and the delivery charge from your TDSP (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, or LP&L), which is the same no matter who supplies you. You shop on the supply side. Comparing plans by your real usage — not the teaser rate — and watching for hidden fees is how you actually lower the total.

ImportantBeware teaser rates and per-kWh fees. The lowest headline rate is not always the lowest bill once usage tiers, base charges, and minimum usage fees are factored in. We compare all-in pricing.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Texas electricity bill so high?

Usually a combination of a high supply rate, extra per-kWh fees, and seasonal usage. Comparing your current rate against current plans for your usage level is the fastest way to see if you are overpaying.

What are the delivery charges on my bill?

Delivery charges come from your TDSP (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas, TNMP, or LP&L). They cover the poles, wires, meters, and outage response and are the same no matter which retail provider you choose.

Can switching providers lower my bill?

Yes — you shop on the supply side. A lower per-kWh rate or a plan with fewer fees reduces the supply portion of your bill while your delivery stays identical.

Is a fixed or variable rate better?

Fixed rates give predictable bills and protect against spikes; variable rates can be cheaper at times but expose you to market swings. It depends on your risk tolerance.

How much can I save by comparing?

Savings vary with your usage and current rate. Many customers save on the supply portion of their bill — call us with your usage and we will estimate what is available.

What is a TDSP, and who is mine in Texas?

A TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Service Provider) is the regulated utility that owns the poles, wires and meters, reads your meter and restores power after an outage. It does not sell you an electricity plan and its delivery charges are the same whichever retail provider you choose. Your TDSP depends on your service address — in some areas more than one utility serves the same city — so confirm it by ZIP code or call us for a free check.

What is a retail electric provider (REP)?

A retail electric provider (REP) is the licensed company that sells you the electricity itself: it sets the rate per kWh, the contract term and the fees on your plan, and it bills you. In the ERCOT market you can shop and switch between REPs freely, while your TDSP keeps delivering the power, so switching never means new wires, a new meter or a service interruption.
